NaNo Rebel

So this year’s NaNo is not going as planned for me πŸ˜› I’m only 6K in. I suppose I’ve been pretty preoccupied with other life changes.

Anyway, I decided to switch to writing my “new” draft of Scarlet Daughter for NaNo instead of the fantasy story I had. Mainly, my fantasy story hadn’t been planned out yet (much), especially in the world building area and that was posing a major problem when I was writing. I’m not giving up on that story–I’ll probably try it again next NaNo.

I believe this is like the third time I’ve written the same story for NaNo. The first year, it was almost a completely different book and I only made it halfway. The second year, I wrote the second “half” of it but again, it’s really gone in a different direction. Last year I wrote Lady of the Snow and made it probably 3/4 of the way through the book (although that one will also be heavily revised as well–the story’s changed so much there too). And this year, it’s the new draft of Scarlet Daughter. The funny part is that the title has changed every time I’ve done NaNo too. πŸ˜›

So I may be a bit of a NaNo rebel switching midstream. But oh well. The 6K came easier than the 3K for my fantasy. I may be lucky to hit the 25K mark by the end of the month but that’s OK. I’ll be that much closer to sending the draft out to beta readers. πŸ™‚

Still Here

Nope, I haven’t fallen off the face of the earth, although from reading my blog you’d surely think that.

I’ve been struggling with coming up with anything remotely resembling an interesting blog post–seems like the creativity well has dried up again–however, I’m trying to replenish it. NaNo is now officially a month away (go and check out the NaNoWriMo site today and sign up–you know you want to…) and I’m trying my best to form some sort of vague story outline for my book this year. I keep going back and forth between it just being a romance or some sort of fantasy book with a save-the-world type theme. I know those seem way different from one another, but that’s the direction it could go.

Also, I haven’t the foggiest idea of a title. Not even anything remotely interesting. I have a month…but you can be sure that I will be enlisting your helpful opinions on book titles πŸ™‚

Anyway, I’ll end this post with a rather awesome song–one that’s been a bit of theme lately. It’s called “Still Here” and it’s by Superchick.

NaNoWrimo Planning

It’s almost that time of year again–no, not Christmas–but NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month).

I can’t believe it’s onlyΒ a little more than a month away. This year is going to be different too–I’ll be a Co-ML (Multiple Liason) this year. MLs are in charge of organizing write-ins and giving overall encouragement to the writers of our particular region. I am thankful I am not the only one though and that there will be someone sharing in the ML duties (actually, he’s probably been doing the bulk of the planning anyway, so really I’m just an assistant :P)

Being an ML though means I have to come up with an idea in order to participate for NaNo. I can’t decide anymore what I want to do this year–it’s not concrete like it has been for the last three. I’m still leaning towards my one fantasy idea–based off an ancient Indian legend–but there’s LOTS of world building I have to do before then since I’m borrowing aspects of different cultures and attempting to blend them in a “new” world. Also, trying to figure out how to start the thing–I know I have over a month still but it’s difficult. Guess I’ll have to focus on it during October.

Anyway, I hope you may be able to participate this year in NaNo. It’s lots of fun; if anything, it gives you something to do and get you closer to getting a novel done (well, at least a rough first draft version). As much as I’ve tried throughout the year, I have never been able to get as much writing done in a month as I can during NaNo. Here’s hoping I can get something concrete enough by then to write!
